Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service Nurse Wins National Award

Kathy Meyer, a Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service (VNS) home care nurse, has been selected to receive the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association’s Marion Ryan Artistry in End-of-Life Nursing Care Award. Kathy was nominated for her artistic efforts with the Peace Together Choir, an inter-faith choir whose mission is to perform and record meaningful music to bring hope and peace to listeners. Ms. Meyer’s creative work in the production of the Choir’s album “Hope in the Night: Hymns of Inspiration and Comfort” was specifically recognized by the awarding body. This album was designed to especially bring comfort to hospice families.

The Marion Ryan Artistry in End-of-Life Nursing Care Award was established to express appreciation to Marion Ryan for her creativity and artistic talents which she graciously shared with the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association (HPNA). Ms. Ryan designed and made numerous HPNA quilts which are cherished by HPNA Past Presidents. This award was created in her honor to recognize the gift of artistry that others have made to end-of-life care.

Ms. Meyer will receive the award at the HPNA Annual Membership Meeting in February 2008 in Tampa Bay, Florida.

The Peace Together Choir has three albums, “Hope in the Night: Hymns of Inspiration and Comfort,” “Gift of Hope: A Christmas Journey,” and “Trust in the Lord: Music of Faith, Hope and Peace.” The albums are on sale at the Hospice of VNS Care Center at 3358 Ridgewood Road in Akron, Grismer’s Christian Gift Store, and the Choir’s website www.hopefulmusic.com. Proceeds benefit Hospice of VNS and other local charitable groups. The Peace Together Choir will be performing their inspiring music at the free Hospice of VNS Fall Memorial Service on October 21 at 4 p.m. at the Bath United Church of Christ, to be held in memory of loved ones who have died within the last year. The Choir will also be performing at the annual convention of the Ohio Hospice & Palliative Care Association in November.
