Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service Volunteer Receives Youth Award

Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service (VNS) Volunteer Haley Arnold, of Copley, received the “Youth Appreciation Day Award” from the Breakfast Optimist Club of Akron at an awards ceremony held on August 7, 2008 at the Martin University Center in Akron. This honor is presented to area youth each year who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to the area, their schools, themselves and their families. Three other area teens were honored as well.

Ms. Arnold has been volunteering at the Hospice of VNS Care Center in Fairlawn for over a year. She has helped in numerous capacities, including gardening and the annual Light Up A Life fundraiser. This year she also volunteered at Camp Promise, Hospice’s annual camp for children who have experienced the death of a loved one.

Volunteerism isn’t Ms. Arnold’s only strong suit. She has attained scholar-athlete status at Copley High School, where she maintains a 3.5 GPA while playing basketball and softball and competing on the cross-country team. Her interest in sports has led her to another volunteer opportunity at Pinnacle Sports, where she assists youth softball teams in learning the techniques, rules and strategies of the game. She is also involved in SafetyTown, a community program that teaches safety to kids and is sponsored by the Copley Fire and Police Departments.
