Visiting Nurse Service (Skilled Home Health Care)
Eligibility
A patient is eligible for skilled home care based on the following reasons:
- Skill Level:
- The services the patient needs require the skill of a registered nurse or a physical,
speech or occupational therapist.
- Intermittent Care:
- The care is needed on a part-time or intermittent basis. In other words, the patient
can care for him or her self but needs the nurse or therapist for teaching or assistance
for the medical conditions.
- Under the care of a physician:
- The doctor needs to order the type of care the patient requires.
- Homebound:
- To bill for Medicare, the patient must be considered homebound. This means the patient
can not leave the home easily. Other insurance companies often have the same requirement.
