Visiting Nurse Service (Skilled Home Health Care)

• Eligibility

A patient is eligible for skilled home care based on the following reasons:

Skill Level:

• The services the patient needs require the skill of a registered nurse or a physical, speech or occupational therapist.

Intermittent Care:

• The care is needed on a part-time or intermittent basis. In other words, the patient can care for him or her self but needs the nurse or therapist for teaching or assistance for the medical conditions.

Under the care of a physician:

• The doctor needs to order the type of care the patient requires.

Homebound:

• To bill for Medicare, the patient must be considered homebound. This means the patient can not leave the home easily. Other insurance companies often have the same requirement.
