Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service (VNS) is seeking volunteers to fulfill a variety of needs this holiday season, as well as donations of personal care, craft and entertainment items for hospice patients.

The following types of volunteers are needed at the Hospice Care Center on Ridgewood Road in Fairlawn.

• Groups to host special activities for Hospice Care Center patients and families, such as an ice cream social, tea party or other appropriate social event.
• Musicians and holiday carolers to play or sing holiday music.
• Balloon and face artists, and magicians for special events year-round.
• Licensed barbers, stylists and nail technicians to provide complimentary services to patients.
• Donations of baked goods for the family kitchen through the holiday season and beyond.

Hospice of VNS is also seeking donations of the following items: books on CD, music CDs, CD cases, CD players with headphones, family-friendly DVDs, personal stationery, small dry-erase boards, journals, greeting cards, wired or silk ribbon, children's books, children's coloring books, art supplies, colored paper, card stock (all colors, especially white) large-print books, bulletin board supplies, disposable cameras, daily diaries, personal care items, neck pillows, small positioning pillows and lip balm. Gift cards to craft stores would also be used to purchase items to make crafts for hospice patient trays. New holiday ornaments in red, white, gold and silver colors would be used to decorate the Justin T. Rogers Hospice Care Center during the holidays.
