Advanced Infusion Services Implements New Technology
In early 2009 Advanced Infusion Services (AIS) implemented the PINNACLE TPN (Total Parenteral Nutrition) Compounding system. (TPN may be ordered by a physician in circumstances when a person is unable to eat and digest their food. TPN can be used in the hospital or at home.) This state-of-the-art touch screen technology improves efficiency and efficacy, ensuring patient safety in the utilization of TPNs to a tenth of a milliliter. AIS is one of the first locations in the state to get this piece of equipment. Benefits include:
- Reduces transcription errors and expedites patient care via direct electronic communication from physician to pharmacist
- Reduces setup time-less than 15 minutes
- Reduces time required for TPN preparation
- Decreases risk of touch contamination with pre-assembled dispensing sets
- Helps reduce medication errors using barcode verification and barcoded patient prescriptions
AIS pharmacists prepare TPNs locally in AIS's state-of-the-art clean room, which is compliant to all FDA regulations. AIS offers free home delivery by trained technicians and experienced infusion nurses to educate the patient and their caregiver on procedures and, when appropriate, are encouraged to participate in the care to gain independence. AIS pharmacists are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For more information, or to refer a patient to AIS, please call 330-972-3311 or 1-888-6-INFUSE.
